Are There Any Running Tips That Will Specifically Help Beginners?
There are many benefits to implementing jogging or running into your regular exercise regime. However, if you are not used to running you may be a little hesitant, not knowing exactly where to start. Following are a few running tips that will help make your experience more pleasant and enjoyable, as if you are hoping to continue with a running program it is important that you enjoy it. Most people usually begin by running shorter distance and then progress to where they are running for longer distances, thus I will include some long distance running tips here as well. If, after reading these tips you have further random questions about running or jogging I recommend that you either join a running club or an online runner’s forum or network so you can ask specific questions and receive specific answers.
These running tips for beginners will be generalized into several different categories; however they are in no particular order of importance. They do not cover all aspects of running, but simply give you some tips to help you get started.
Running Gear: First of all, you want to feel good about how you look while running. Don’t skimp on your running gear, buy something that looks good on you and that is comfortable to wear. Pay attention to the little details such as the type of socks you wear–buy those that are designed for runners, women should wear a good support bra and men may want to wear spandex shorts underneath their running shorts to prevent any chafing from developing.
Keeping Motivated: Join a running club or at least run with a partner, you will be less likely to skip out on your runs. Be prepared for a slow start and do not expect too much from yourself in the beginning. Remember that even when you have been running for a while you will still have ‘good’ days and days where you feel you under-achieved. Rather than comparing yourself with others, compare your performance with previous performances. Decide on your intermediate goals and your long-term goals and chart your progress each day. Celebrate your victories.
Beginner Running Tips: Breathing should not be labored, especially in the beginning. If you find you are panting or it is hard to catch your breath, slow down and walk till you regain your breath. Start out with short runs and gradually build up to running longer distances. Alternate short sprints with longer, more slowly paced jogs. Work on your endurance first and later work on increasing your speed. Try running on trails or along grass paths rather than on the road or asphalt tracks; it is easier on your body and more enjoyable.
If you implement these few beginner running tips you will find that your runs are more enjoyable and your strength and endurance will gradually build. Remember, running and exercise is great for your body, your overall health and for weight loss.
