What Is The Simplest Chocolate Cake Recipe?
If you are really looking for an incredibly simple chocolate cake recipe you may find it simplest to buy a pre-made cake mix; they are usually guaranteed to come out well. Many cooks prefer not to use pre-made cake mixes however and if you are one of those cooks you will be happy to hear that there are some recipes that are extremely easy to make.
Here is one chocolate cake recipe that I often make, which usually turns out very well. It is a very easy chocolate cake recipe that is actually quite fast to make as well–great to bake when you do not have a lot of time to come up with a cake. The one flaw with it is that it can sometimes be a little crumbly, especially if you leave it in the oven for a few minutes too long. Even so, it is still very delicious.
Ingredients
6 oz. margarine or butter
6 oz. caster sugar
3 eggs
5 oz. self-raising flour
2 oz. sifted cocoa
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 pinch of salt
Method
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celcius (370 F). Grease and line a 7 inch round cake tin. Put all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix for one minute. Be sure not to over-mix, just mix until all the ingredients are mixed well together. Pour the mixture into the cake tin and bake for about 45 minutes. You will know the cake is cooked when the sides pull away from the cake tin. You can also test whether it is cooked by sticking a skewer into the middle of the cake and pulling it out–if it comes out dry, the cake is cooked. Be sure to take the cake out of the oven as soon as it is done so that it retains its moistness. While it may not be the best chocolate cake recipe, it certainly is one of the simplest I have made.
If you prefer a flourless chocolate cake recipe there are some incredibly rich tasting recipes that use only melted cooking chocolate, eggs, sugar, butter and cream. Be warned though, these type of recipes are very rich–almost more like a chocolate mousse than a cake. I have tried asking random questions about what you can substitute for wheat flour in a recipe and have tried some different alternatives; however I do find that substituting flour for another grain does tend to make fairly heavy cakes.
